The Magellanic Cloud
The galaxy (Polish title: Obłok Magellana) may be a 1955 fantasy novel by Polish author Stanisław lunar module. The novel was the idea for the Czech film Ikarie XB-1.
Major literary tropes embody celestial body travel, "first contact", with a good deal of psychological fiction, and most of all, Communist utopia complete with the criticism of the capitalist militarism, which Elm himself characterized as Associate in Nursing "extract of the days of Socialist realism".
Fragments of the novel were published earlier, in 1953-1954, in the magazine Przekrój.
- Plot summary
The novel is ready within the thirty second century, in an exceedingly communist Utopian future. Humanity has settled all of the scheme, and is currently creating its initial try at celestial body travel.
Aboard a vessel referred to as Gaea, 227 men and ladies leave the planet for the double star system.
After virtually eight years of travel, they notice signs of organic life on a planet orbiting Proxima, possibly originating on another planet within the Centauri system. One of the planets orbiting double star seems to be inhabited by a complicated civilization.
The expedition meets the lifeless human ship "Atlants", that seems to be Associate in Nursing recent artificial war satellite of the us and its NATO allies, carrying still active biological weapons and nuclear warheads, that had accidentally left Earth orbit and got lost in house throughout the conflict era.
- Censorship and criticisms
When the novel was initial printed, elements of it were expurgated by the Communist authorities. Lem denounced [citation needed] the expurgated version, career it too optimistic regarding Communism. At the time, this demonstrated Lem's confidence that his singular status as a Polish author of international renown would protect him from state repression.
